Project
team members are currently compiling, editing, and collecting data for
the Rano Raraku Interior Atlas publication. We're looking through thousands
of photos taken over the past 5 seasons of field work and reviewing
data and field notes for the best information to include in the first
comprehensive catalog and map of the moai in the interior quarries.
This publication will include historic information, measurements, classification,
and visual documentation of each statue feature located, relocated and
previously documented inside Rano Raraku.
The
EISP Statue Inventory is becoming the authoritative database about moai.
We often provide information to the Chilean park service and conservation
scholars who need this scientific and historical data to protect the
statues. This data is constantly updated and shared with research partners.
Our project needs volunteers and advice in the areas of database development
and programming to convert our MS Access database and Extensis Portfolio
image catalog into one cohesive web accessible application to enable
secure worldwide collaboration and GIS spatial analysis. If you have
expertise or advice in these areas, please contact us: eisp@ioa.ucla.edu
