Cotsen Alumnus Mac Marston Receives Coveted James R. Wiseman Book Award of the Archaeological Institute of America

Mac Marston, who obtained his PhD from the archaeology program at UCLA in 2010 has won the prestigious and highly coveted James R. Wiseman Book Award of the Archaeological Institute of America for his 2017 book, Agricultural Sustainability and Environmental Change at Ancient Gordion.  This book, which is based on his doctoral dissertation in the Archaeology IDP is a publication of the paleoethnobotany of the 1993-2002 Gordion excavations (Turkey), based on 220 botanical samples. The book aims to reconstruct agricultural decision making using archaeological and paleoenvironmental data to describe environmental and agricultural changes at the site. Mac will be accepting the award at the joint AIA/SCS meetings in San Diego in early January.
