Rock Art Archive

The Rock Art Archive is directed by Jo Anne Van Tilburg.

Researchers and the public are welcome to visit the UCLA Rock Art Archive. The core of our data is our extensive private collections, donated in the interest of research and conservation. The following regions are represented: all areas of California, including the important site of Little Lake in the Rose Valley; other areas of the Far West and Southwest U.S.; Mexico and especially Baja California; some Eastern and several Midwestern states, and the Pacific islands. We have a small teaching collection of selected European and Australian sites.  Among our most important and extensive materials are those amassed by Dr. Robert F. Heizer, a professional archaeologist and one of the founders of California rock art studies. A partial history of the archive and of rock art studies is discernible in our extensive correspondence records, site reports, site records, and research reports. All materials are non-circulating, and volunteer staff are on-site during stated times to assist visitors.
